The words anam cara are of Gaelic origin and mean ‘someone to walk with’.
anam cara is a leading non-government, not for profit organisation that is committed to supporting people on their recovery journey.
anam cara is a part of Centacare Disability Services. The service was established by Centacare in 1997 as a response to institutional reform by the Queensland Government in the area of mental health.
anam cara provides a range of support services to enable people with a mental illness to live active, satisfying and rewarding lives. These services aim to be responsive to the individual needs of each person while maintaining flexibility.
anam cara is committed to working within the Recovery Model.
anam cara regularly reviews, evaluates and improves programs to ensure services are of high quality and in accordance with Queensland Disability Service Standards.

Accessing us
anam cara provides a range of support services to adults with a mental illness between the ages of 18 to 65 living across the Brisbane metropolitan area and reaching out to Ipswich, Logan, Bayside and Redcliffe regions.
Access to our individual services is available to adults who are in receipt of an individual funding package from the Department of Communities, Disability Services. This funding is ongoing.
Funding packages include:
Project 300 (P300)
Housing and Support Packages (HASP)
Adult Lifestyle Packages (ALSP)
Hostel Closure Response
Adults with a psychiatric disability who wish to receive an individual funding package can apply for an Adult Lifestyle Package (ALSP) directly with Department of Communities, Disability Services by visiting their website at www.disability.qld.gov.au
